Tiki Idol Surf Fin Art Linocut Print by Tems.
I’ve always loved traditional Tiki carvings and surfing and tribal imagery seem to go hand in hand. This is probably due to surfing having its roots in Polynesian culture, where wave sliding was a spiritual and social activity. In this Tiki Idol Fin, I wanted to show my respect to surfing’s history, whilst also creating a fin that had a deeper spiritual meaning. Even after all these years since surfing wave first created, there’s still something incredibly spiritual and magical about it. The connection that you have with everything around you while you’re out there in the sea and the coming together of everything in that special moment when you catch a perfect wave. I’ve tried to capture the elements aligning in this way on this this Tiki Idol fin, as he wears rings of the four elements of nature, Fire, Water, Air and Earth. I like to think that if I had this fin on my board, the Tiki would bring me luck in finding the best waves, so i could have the most fun and always stay stoked. I’ve also hidden some other traditional tribal symbolism in this fin too. Have a look and see if you can spot it.

The linoprint that you’ll receive will be almost identical, although there will be some very slight differences.
Each print is individually created from the linocut, so there will be minor variations in each print.
This process means that each piece of surf fin artwork is unique and original, not just a repeated digitally printed image.
Carve Fin Art watermarks have been used for the purpose of protecting the online image and do not appear on the product itself.
Only the surf fin shaped linoprint design and pencil signature appear on the actual print.
*Paper is cut down to size by hand and may vary in size by 1/2mm.
** The print should not be placed so that it’s directly touching the glass, as over time, this may cause damage to the print. Therefore, when using an A4 frame, spacers should be used to keep the print from touching the glass.

Creating artwork and surfing helps me to manage issues that I experience with my mental health. Please take a moment to check out The Wave Project, an amazing charity that I’ve volunteered for, which helps young people to reduce anxiety and improve confidence through surfing.
